Naomi Watts in her best role yet Jet Girl

AUSSIE star Naomi Watts says actors should be immune from pay cuts in the financial crisis – because the world needs escapism.

Asked in an interview with Cinema Confidential whether Hollywood actors are making too much money at a time when the economy is in tatters and people are being laid off, the actor responded:

“I think we may be more open to negotiations and things like that but I think the art world tends to thrive in times of recession.

“We need the escapism,” she said.

“We need stories to be told to take ourselves away from the reality of our situations of circumstance. So I don’t think it’s (Hollywood) gonna stop. I think money is gonna be tight, definitely.”

Good point, but easily said when you get paid more for one film than most people do in their entire life.,22606,25100231-5012985,00.html

She didn’t say that actors “should be immune to pay cuts” ….she just stated they may be more open to negotiations, and that the entertainment industry generally thrives during tougher economic times…which is the truth.
Would you rather actors volunteer to take less money so that the studios could just keep more of it?
Celebrities taking less money will not put more money into the pockets of poor or unemployed people….the fact is that there is nothing morally wrong with financial success, and dragging those people down will not help individuals who have less income.

If the average-joes working on the crew have to take a pay cut so should the actors and producers.
If movies are made for less money then ticket prices could feasibly come down.

I know they won’t because Hollywood are greedy c*nts. But anyway.

  1. As if movie tickets are that expensive in the first place. You’re bitching about $7.00-$9.00 a ticket? You pay more than that for one medium popcorn and two medium drinks. I know this is old as fuck, I just stumbled on it looking for pictures of Naomi Watts from when she was in Tank Girl (because she’s hot as fuck to me with black hair).

Joe makes a valid point/argument. Besides, the only people who take pay cuts and lose jobs in a tough economy are the ones whose job is expendable. Should have fucking not been lazy and went to college (you don’t have to be a genius to go to college for damn near free, you just have to work for it) and got a better job, one in which you wouldn’t be expendable. Besides, acting is a pretty hard job, it takes innate skill plus tons of training and a lot of really hard work to get to that point. It’s a job not very many people can do, and enough average-Joes are willing to still pay to see the damn things, then their job isn’t in fucking danger and they don’t need to take a pay cut.

Damn I hate when people try to use that backwards logic of “if I have to lose money [because I decided to get a job flipping burgers and now they have to make cuts], then somebody else [who worked hard and dedicated a lot of time, energy, and resources in securing a higher paying and more specialized job that less people are able to do] should have to take a pay cut too!”

If you don’t like it, don’t go to the fucking movies.
